Smart TV is a new concept of television that can be connected to the internet giving you access to a wider range of services than just digital broadcast services. Opening up the television up to the internet has huge benefits but also increases the chances of children accidently being exposed to adult material. Some TVs will have built in Wifi but some will require you to connect to your current Wifi ISP. The same protection procedures should be implemented through your ISP. Smart TVs carry the same risks as a smart phone here are some extra steps you can take to ensure extra protection:
LG Smart TV
LG are using a PIN Lock as a parental control mechanism. This enables you to block channels that contain inappropriate content.
Panasonic Smart TV
Panasonic are using a PIN code for parental control. This lock allows you to restrict the internet apps your children can access. It also allows you to block TV content that has certain ratings.
Samsung Smart TV
Samsung are using a PIN Code to protect innocent eyes from adult-oriented content. You can block programmes based on a show's rating (PG or 18 for example) or the content of the program (such as blocking all violence and adult language) and you can block certain sites in your TV's built-in web browser, too.
